Do you sometimes look at pictures of a modern classroom and wish you were lucky enough to experience it back during your good old school days?
Well, here's your chance to realise the dream of many a student from a humble, suburban school in Johor!
There is a lack of decent, available rooms in our school for extracurricular activities. There are no rooms in our school which provide a comfortable learning space for students to move freely. The few current 21st century classrooms in our school have rigid seating and furniture arrangement which limits movement for interaction and self-expression.
That being said, SLB SMK Permas Jaya has decided to implement the SLBHQ project, primarily in light of the fact that students are less likely to learn in an unconducive and unattractive classroom setting. In addition, we have been facing difficulties in securing a suitable location for extracurricular meetings, especially a permanent place to host one of our ongoing, year-long projects, i.e. MyReaders programme, a reading literacy initiative. Not only that, we need a storage area to keep our SLB possessions accumulated over the years from our past projects.
As you can see, we lack the money to get one more air conditioner for SLBHQ. A 2.5HP Mitsubishi air conditioner costs around RM3000. The reason why we need 2 units of 2.5HP air conditioners is the size of the room, and 2 units of 2.5HP air conditioners are recommended by air conditioner experts for a 31 ft (length) X 19ft (width) X 11ft (height) room. Apart from that, there is a need to install a DB box separately just for SLBHQ in order to support the energy required to run 2 air conditioners.
