Must have a bottle of cold water after a huge run?
What if I told you that some of my students go without water after a long afternoon of sports training? It is not because they don't like drinking water.
It's because our water-cooler machine is broken.
I teach in Sekolah Sukan Pahang (SSP) SMK Seberang Temerloh, a state sports school. As of 2015, the school has about 650 students, and 200 of them are sports students. They live in the hostel within the school compound. The students attend school from 7.20am till 2.30pm, after which they have about an hour for lunch break, before joining their daily training from 3.30pm to 7.00pm, depending on the coach and field availability. The main sports that the school focuses on are - football, hockey, sepak takraw, athletics, netball, and archery.
Since the outdoor training starts late afternoon, the weather is hot and the temperature can go up to 40 degree celcius sometimes. Therefore, it is important for students and athletes to drink water and stay hydrated as it is important for them to keep their bodies functioning at an optimum level. Sufficient water intake is important to prevent muscle sore as water aid in the removal of lactic acid. Severe muscle sore affects my students performance in sports and their ability to concentrate in class. I would like to prevent that.
I want to build a water-filtration system to provide free and clean drinking water for not only my sports students but ALL students in my school.
You can get more details from my project proposal here.
Sincerely,
Cikgu Fuad
