About SJK (T) Taman Melawati
In 1919, Wardieburn Estate Tamil Primary School was founded by a foreman, Mr.Kalimuthu Servei. In 1938, the school was moved to Gombak 5 ½ Wardieburn Estate. 1n 1953, the school was moved to Mile 5 Jalan Genting Klang. SRJK(T) Wardieburn conducted in the afternoon from January 1968 at SRK Klang Gate, due to Wardieburn farm and school grounds military camps were built.
The new building was built at the end of 1986, and completed at the end of 1987. From 1988 the school session started at the new building in Taman Melawati . Based on the decision of the Ministry of Education, the name of the school has been modified to SRJK (T) Taman Melawati and registered and brought to the attention of the PTA and the School Board Manager.
The school as completed 100 years last year. SJKT Taman Melawati is known as famous Tamil school among Gombak and Selangor. The school has been selected as TS25 ( Tranformation Program 2025) to increase student success in schools through effective leardership, competent teachers and strong commitment of the Parent Teacher Association.
Now the school has a student population of 235. Majority of the students are staying around Setapak, Kampung Fajar, Wangsa Maju and Melawati. Large number of students are from low-income families with joint parental income below RM3,000.
SJKT Taman Melawati won 12 Gold awards in Eco-Green Technology Honourable Innovation Competition E-THIC 2020. 3 student won Gold Medal Awards In Malaysia Young Scientists Conference and Exhibition. The same students won 3 gold awards inInternational Invention Innovation Competition In (Canada I-Can Toronto Canana). One student from this school top scorer out of 8572 participants in Arivom Ayiram National level Quiz Contest 2020. Another student won 6th place in Kulal Valiyoli National Level competition 2020. One stundent won 1st place in ‘Bengkel Syoknya Teroka Ilmu di Rumah’ organized by National STEM Center.2 pupilsrepresented our school forstate level competition (BM story telling level 1 and Public Speking level 2). One student won second place in Thirumurai Peruvizha 2020.
On 30.07.2020, chief minister of Selangor YAB MB Dato Seri Amirudin bin Shari visited the school and donated RM10000 to PIBG SJKT Taman Melawati. YB also promised to contribute a Van to school. Prof Dr Kadir Ibrahim gave a motivation talk to parents and puplis early this year. Inpector Jegan from IPD Ampang attended thePrefect reconation event.
The school always takes part in attractive program in district, state, national and international level. The 17 teachers of SJKT Taman Melawati are very committed and dedicated in teaching the younger generation. Their effort in giving productive education to the children make the children to explore in national and international platform.
About The BIG GIVE 2020
Due to the global pandemic COVID-19, all schools in Malaysia were abruptly closed and students have been made to learn from home since Malaysia imposed the MCO on 18 March 2020.
Months have passed and students and teachers have been struggling with effectively learning from home. Therefore, the Ministry of Education began allowing students and school staff to return to school in June. However, our battle against COVID-19 is not yet over until we find a vaccine.
As cases are on the rise again, face masks have been made compulsory effective 1st August and we want to ensure that our nation’s children are protected. 100% Project has launched a Nationwide fundraising campaign called The Big Give and we are partnering with Mangosteen to provide our students, teachers and school administrators with FREE reusable cloth face masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools.
Mangosteen is a social enterprise that is working with a community of mothers from vulnerable communities (B40, Orang Asli, etc) to make reusable cloth face masks.

The Big Give’s ambitious goal is to raise funds to provide at least 1 million reusable face masks to schools across Malaysia, protecting all our students and school staff.
With only RM10, you will be sponsoring a reusable face mask to a school AND providing a mother with the means to support her family.
How The Campaign Works
Step 1 - Schools apply to fundraise for FREE reusable face masks
The school or any member of the public can nominate a school on our Big Give website. No criteria is needed to apply for the fundraiser. The school will only need to give us their details and the no. of masks they require.
Step 2 - 100% Project fundraises for the school
The schools that have applied for these free reusable face mask will be listed on 100% Project platform. 100% Project will rally the public - individuals, corporates and small businesses - to raise funds for our schools. The minimum donation to sponsor 1 reusable face mask is RM10.
Step 3 - 100% Project delivers reusable face masks to the school
Upon achieving the target amount, 100% Project will deliver free reusable face masks to the school with our partners.
