Let their dreams come true!
Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Sepiling is located in the rural area of Baram, Sarawak. The school consists of 10 students from Year 2 to 6, and 7 teachers. The distance from this school to the nearest town is about 6 hours boat or car ride.
This is our school
Their parents ambition wanted them to pursue higher level education. It was decided that I would introduce robotics to a few students and see if that would do anything to motivate them towards a better education. The initial step is to establish the STEM club in school. Through the establishment of STEM club, I hope to share my interest in robotics with my students in a more organised way.
In 2018, the school introduced robotics to its students through the STEM club. Robotics have attracted their interest and Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Sepiling were qualified for the Petrosains RBTX Challenge competition in Shah Alam at the National Level. Sekolah Kebangsaan Long Sepiling was the first school in Baram who first participated in a robotic competition. Our participation in robotic competitions has opened the eyes of the community to the fact that rural schools have their own strengths if their students are given the opportunity and support.
In 2019, the school continued its legacy by participating in the Petrosains RBTX Challenge competition in the Robosumo, Robotracer and Innovation categories. This competition involved 7 students and 3 advisor teachers. To participate in this competition, the school needs a lot of expenses including transportation fees, accommodation and buying robot spare parts. We need materials for the competition so students can practice as the competition will take place on 13-14 July 2019 in Kuching Sarawak.
Kuching is located about 747km from our school. We would have to spend 3 nights there in order to join this programme and the long journey can be very tiring for the students. We need to raise enough funds for the accommodation cost, the transport cost and the cost of the students' food and drink. Please do give us your support so that we can support the students!
